Cellular Jail, also known as "Kala Pani" (meaning black water), is a colonial-era prison located on Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India
The jail was built to hold political prisoners and freedom fighters during India's struggle for independence from British rule
The construction of Cellular Jail began in 1896 and was completed in 1906
The cells in the Cellular Jail were small, dark, and overcrowded, leading to extreme hardship for the prisoners
One of the most infamous parts of the jail was the "Viper Chain Gang," where prisoners were subjected to torturous forced labor under brutal conditions
Cellular Jail gained notoriety for its "Punishment Block," where prisoners were subjected to severe corporal punishment
Despite the harsh treatment, many brave freedom fighters and nationalists endured the hardships and continued their struggle for India's independence
