Plan a Perfect Weekend Trip to Offbeat Destination Orchha With These Insider Facts in 2024

There are quite a few places in India that have a combination of rich history, stunning architecture, culturally significant and, at the same time, naturally beautiful. In this blog, we will be continuing from where we left off in our last blog, continue to explore Orchha.

In case you don’t know who we are…

We call ourselves Travel Freaks…

We reached Orchha the day before from Gwalior. Read our previous blog on Gwalior; it will give you an insight into the place and plan your itinerary.

Returning to our story, we started our day in Orchha with a refreshing breakfast on the way, the famous Poha (flat rice) of Gwalior. This is a must-try for those planning a trip to Madhya Pradesh. After this, we headed to……..

1. Orchha Fort

It’s a picturesque place. The fort has various temples, palaces and cenotaphs. We started climbing up the stairs over there to get the best view. After reaching the top, the view was breathtaking.

The complex houses three historical architectures in the form of a quadrangle: Raja Mahal, Jehangir Mahal and Sheesh Mahal (which is now a heritage hotel run by Madhya Pradesh tourism).

We walked around these amazing monuments that took us back in time. 😊

When it was close to noon, we were hungry. To our surprise, we found that our driver had already got our lunch packed from the Ram Raja Mandir before we started our day.

It was a delicious prasadam, and we had a great time having it before heading to our next destination.….

2. Royal Chhatris

The place was approx—1.5 km from Orchha Fort. As many of you can understand from the names, there were many Chhatris or Cenotaphs that have been built. The Chhatris were mainly built to pay homage to Bundela kings.

All the cenotaphs were close to river Betwa, giving this historical site a magical view. It was really difficult to capture through the lens.

As we finished exploring the place, we found a beautiful temple just adjacent to Royal Chhatris. It was…….

3. Chaturbhuj Temple

This was yet another remarkable architecture. The temple was dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the form of Chaturbhuj, meaning one with four arms. The temple provides a spectacular view of the surrounding area.

The best part of the temple was the serene location that it offered. One could sit and relax there for a while. It was so soothing.

The last destination on our list was not in Madhya Pradesh, rather it was in Uttar Pradesh.

Excited to know huh….

It was…….

4. Parichha Dam

It took us around one hour to reach the dam. The dam is located in the Jhansi district. Apart from the conventional usage of a dam, it has become a popular tourist destination in recent times due to its picturesque landscapes.

We loved the place and we took quite a few snaps as memories before heading towards our stay.

It was about 7:00 PM when we returned to the hotel at Orchha. We ordered dinner from the hotel cafeteria before heading out for a cultural event. Now, you might be curious to know….

5. What was the cultural event about?

We went for the famous Light and Sound Show in Orchha Fort. This is something not to be missed while being in Orchha. Show ticket cost us around 100 INR per person.

This will give you a rich cultural and heritage introduction of the city. We enjoyed every bits and pieces of the event.

With this, our Orchha exploration came to an end.
